Months ago I was thinking about to buy a 3D TV but after what I saw and read about the technology of the future, I think that it is not the good time, more now with the CES 2011. Actually, if someone wants 3D in his house, he has to buy the 3D TV of course but also a player compatible 3D and 3D glasses for each member of the family. At the end, the final cost is quite expensive, above all if you are a family of 4 persons or more. I do believe it is because of that this technology didn’t know a great success yet in spite that in the market, 3D movies are already available and in the future, be sure that it will have more and more. The black glasses that we got when we go to see a |
3D movie in theater are not at all compatible with this technology but for example, during the Barcelona World Race in december 2010, a catalan channel was doing a demonstration of its new 3D programs in which with those simple glasses it was possible to watch in 3D so don’t throw them !!!
Few days ago, I read about Toshiba which developed a new technology allowing to watch 3D without glasses !!! And we will find those new TVs within 2 years even sooner that we may think so why buy now a 3D TV ??? Really not making sense or people just want to throw away his money !!!

Actually, there are no a lot of 3D products, I mean programs, channels, blu-ray… to have absolutely at home this technology except to impress your love !!! The bad point or the good point, depending how you perceive it, is that TV with the Toshiba technology has to be a big one, at least 50 inches if you want that all your family can watch in 3D. Anyway, smaller model seems not efficient for the moment in spite of using the OLED and 4K technology, if not buy the 3D game console of Nintendo.
During the CES 2011, Sony presented some models of glasses free OLED 3D TV but the one, which intrigued me, was the virtual headset OLED 3D goggles. A kind of futurist helmet integrating on every eye a mini screen OLED compatible 3D and to provide an optimal functioning, kind of smart transparent glasses determine the distance between your eyes and the screen to calibrate electrically both OLED screens then the show in 3D can display on every eye.

The other thing, that stunned me, was the transparent AMOLED 4K screen of Samsung. Just to resume quickly, a 4K (3840x2160 pixels) screen provides a quality picture much more higher than a Full HD. The AMOLED 4K is a transparent screen of 19 inches no thicker than a sheet using mini color diodes instead of the red, blue and green pixels so it emits its own light.
So don’t be so eager to get the latest technology at home and just wait a little more, of course you can tell me that with this kind of advices, we can wait all our life but there is always a right moment and this time is not yet arrived.

You're right, like any new technologies, they will be expensive but after depending on how will react the market and the price can drop quickly like what we can see with the 3D TV actually.
The other fact is not really convenient to watch a movie with glasses, at least for me, that's the reason why I'm hesitating and also because there are no 3D products like movie, game... which attract me now in spite that I'm a PS3 gamer

Realistically, 3D TV without glasses will not be commerically available at a reasonable price for at least 3-5 years. And if the technology is anything like the Nintendo 3DS then all of the 3D effects will be inside the TV, without the ability to push things out of the screen. Plus, by the time glass-less 3D TVs are available imagine how much cheaper the glasses TVs would be.
All of the newest and best games for PS3 and XBox will be in 3D. Crysis and Kill Zone just to name 2 releases in Q1. You are going to miss out on a lot of exciting developments if you wait 3-5 years before taking the plunge.
