4G (also known as LTE – Long Term Evolution) is the new technology which will replace our actual 3G/3G+ and it will offer a better quality of transfer. The first 3G device appeared the first time in 2001 in Japan and quickly it has conquered the international cell phone market offering great opportunities of simultaneous use of speech and data services. Nowadays, we can find it in majority of products like blackberry, smartphone… including the Ipad but do you use this technology ??? Talking for myself, yes I do. Depending where I am, I’m going to use either the wifi or the 3G network. For example, in the airport I will turn on my wifi but in |
the mountain, my 3G if I have a network connection of course.
With the 3G, I can connect to internet, google maps application, check my email… and I can receive call. Well, the same things as if I use the wifi except that the speed is slower but with the 4G, all will change.
The 4G will offer a better quality and performance with its high debit. It will allow us to watch TV smoothly, the time of loading internet pages will be faster… but the most important is how it will treat the voice service.
To resume how it works, the call will be “encapsulated” and change it into data, something similar as the VoIP technology (delivering calls over IP networks) so in practice, we will have a better quality of audio (conversation and listening) without deteriorating the data service.
Actually we need to contract the voice and data services with our provider but when the 4G will be on the market, in theory, we will only need to contract the data service. Of course, communication companies will have to change their infrastructure and it can take a little time for everybody to enjoy it because they will start first by big cities to end with small villages.
Samsung already offers a 4G USB key for people living at Scandinavia, Nokia has integrated it to its cell phone, the model RD-3 and HTC in its model Evo 4G so people, who will buy it, can enjoy this technology when it will be ready. May be we won’t need to wait 2011 at the end !!! But I will, just to see more new devices and to buy one once the network will be completely ready and stable offering 100% of the 4G performance.
