During the CES 2009, majority of the CEO’s big companies talked about the integration of the internet inside a TV. They emphasised the fact that in near future, all TVs will be equipped with a browser so not only if we get bored watching TV, we can surf in the web to consult our mails, to search a video in youtube, to chat… It will be the first step for those companies to create a hybrid of “TV-PC” so if I push more farther the idea and I think they also did it, soon... maybe not so soon... we will have a TV Computer at home. A TV with a hard disk, a processor, memories, motherboard, video card… and equipped with a |
wireless keyboard and mouse, we will be able to play video games, watch divx video, play blu-ray disk...
I see a lot of advantages but also inconvenients. For example, we all know that a computer is going to be obsolete after 6 months maximum so would it be the same with this TV Computer ???
The challenge for the companies will be to create a TV PC where we can upgrade not only the firmware, the operating system but also the hardware so I can change for example from my old Nvidia card to the latest one or switch to an ATI one, put more memories, upgrade my hard disk… like I do with my PC and by this way, to be up to date with the minimum requirements of the new versions of software.
The advantage will be the price and spaces. Normally such kind of devices should be cheaper than if you buy them separately and also it is a good thing if you don’t have a lot of space at home.
I am sure that it reminds you something like TV-VHS or TV-DVD (a TV integrating a VHS or DVD player). Sincerely I am not fan of this kind of gadget because, out of warranty, when you broke the TV, the integrated player will not be used anymore or if you broke the player, you have to spend a lot of money to repair it or you have to buy a new one or simply a stand alone player. At the end, you didn’t save any money and companies have to deal this problem too.
Well for the moment, let’s get back to the present and let’s see when we will see the first TV Internet in the market because each product has its own lifetime and do not forget that we live in a world of consummation.
Because even if the 2nd generation may be ready inside companies but not in the market, they will sell first the 1st generation to us – that’s how the world works !!!
