"The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep"
Barack Hussein Obama won the election by 349 (51.9%) against 147 (46.8%) for John McCain and he becomes the first African-American destined to sit in the Oval Office. Young and charismatic with his 47 years old (born august 4th 1961) but with little experience on the national level, he was the first democrat to receive more than 50 percent of the popular vote since Jimmy Carter in 1976.
"It's been a long time coming, but tonight, because of what we did on this date in this election at this defining moment, change has come to America"
He won states that normally voted republican like Ohio, Florida… Indiana and Virginia for example which didn’t supported democrat in 44 years !!! Now his duty is to assemble a White House team and select Cabinet nominees because he has just 76 days before the inauguration on january 20th 2009. Meanwhile, democrats will control the White House and Congress for the first time since 1994.
"Tonight the American people have called for a new direction. They have called for change in America" He will direct an America in its most difficult moment like the rising unemployment, home foreclosures and battered stock market that has erased trillions of dollars of savings for its citizens. "We may not get there in one year or even in one term. But, America, I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there. I promise you, we as a people will get there" By saying this phrase, not only he acknowledges the problems but also the promise to repair the economy and to deal all those. |
McCain had no choice except to accept his defeat and to support the new President by saying "These are difficult times for our country. And I pledge to him tonight to do all in my power to help him lead us through the many challenges we face." Bush, from his side, congratulated him by saying "I promise to make this a smooth transition. You are about to go on one of the great journeys of life. Congratulations and go enjoy yourself."

Obama won California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, Vermont, Washington and Wisconsin.
McCain had Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia and Wyoming.
