Dragons of the autumn twilight

I started to read Dragonlance book series written by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman:

the chronicles trilogy: dragons of autumn twilight, dragons of winter night and dragons of spring dawning
the legends trilogy: time of the twins, war of the twins and test of the twins

Since I started to play Advanced Dungeons & Dragons long time ago and I am still fan.

I really hoped that one day each book will be converted in films like the lord of the rings trilogy of Tolkien so when I read somewhere that the first book will be developed in an animation, I was quite

excited – I would prefer more a movie but it is best than nothing !!!

At last, I will see my favorite character the powerful wizard Raistlin with its hourglass golden eyes takes life - in fact, the full world including the other main characters, draconians, Takhisis…

The DVD was released on january 15, 2008 and it consists of a 90 minutes of animation directed by Will Meugniot with starring voices of Kiefer Sutherland, Lucy Lawless and Michael Rosenbaum. I was thinking to buy it but after my enthusiastic feeling to watch the trailer, I was quite disappointed so I decided to rent it.

The story is about a group of friends who, after to have travelled each one of his side, are reunited again in an inn to discuss about what they found about the disappearance of Gods. The meeting will be interrupted to save a young woman who brings proof that God didn’t abandon the world and by this action, they will be involved in a war between the good and the evil.

The animation is a mix of 2D and CGI which looks like a cartoon. It remembered me the animation “the hobbit” (1977) directed by Arthur Rankin Jr. & Jules Bass with starring voices of Orson Bean and John Huston, based on the book Bilbo the hobbit of Tolkien, that I watched when I was a kid. I passed a really good time but it was when I was very very very young !!!

I am really disappointed with this animated version and if you really want to watch it, I counsel you to rent it or to buy it for $1 symbolic. I hope that in close future a movie with real actors will be acclaimed in theater and it will be so good or even better than the lord of the rings of Peter Jackson.
