To index your site, it is very easy and even a baby can do it !!! After to be in the top ranking will depend a lot about you and no more about google or yahoo. They put some tools at your disposition to get statistics like how many people visit your website, which visited pages… and provide some useful information like sitemap and robots file to help you build a better indexation and by this way, a better traffic.

After registering your website, you will have access of the webmaster tools to diagnose the performance of your site and to pass from unknown to known, it will depend mainly a lot of your generated traffic.
So depending of your traffic strategy, when someone uses google for example and put “XXX”, your website can be displayed at the page 20, 10 or 1 !!! Like you can guest, more traffic you have, better chance to be in page 1.
