I love soundtracks but not any kind !!! A soundtrack composed of musics (and not songs) it is what I love the most for example the movie one Stardust by Ilan Eshkeri or Jason Bourne series by John Powell. Maybe because I love classic music but the fact to hear the drums, the violin, the piano… mixing and playing together in a perfect harmony provide me full of sensations and emotions. According to the rhythm, sometimes I feel pain imagining myself in a tragic situation or excitement dreaming about to be an hero !!! main theme is singing by a famous one and the rest of the songs are performed by less famous artists and at the end, a soundtrack composed of 15 songs, I just like one so I prefer to buy a music composed for example by Eric Serra, Akira Yamaoka, Howard Shore, Antonio Pinto… this kind of style.
Generally used to promote the movie, soundtracks come out first and sometimes months before that the film hit our theater. For example I remember about Titanic directed by James Cameron (released in january 2nd 1998) and music composed by James Horner (released in 1997), in this period, I lived in Paris and the CD came out more and less almost 2 months before and it was used as an advertising campaign. Moreover a big impact has been created with the song “My Heart Will Go On” performed by Celine Dion. The domino effect has been launched and everyone was so eager to watch the movie that the D day, I had to reserve my ticket or go very earlier !!! Even days after !!! Ya I watched it… did I cry ??? I confessed, I did.
Today the movie soundtrack Twilight debuts at number 1 on the billboard 200, it is the first one to hit #1 before the movie’s release since 8 mile (Eminem movie) 6 years ago.
This vampire romance film directed by Catherine Hardwicke will be released on november 21, 2008 in US and january 7, 2009 in Europe. There are 2 kinds of soundtracks – one with 12 songs by various artists (Linkin Park, Collective Soul, Muse…) and one with 20 scores by Carter Burwell. The movie is based on the best seller book Twilight written by Stephenie Meyer in 2005.
Did you buy it ? And by this way contributed to its success and what next ? Are you going to watch it ?
I don’t own it yet but surely if I’m going to buy it, I will prefer the score instead of the songs. What I am sure it is that soundtrack is a very powerful marketing for the upcoming movie – action, romance, thriller, comedy… it doesn’t matter the kind of movie but how it is promoted by those big company of the film industry to create this desire of emotions.
