Steve Jobs, a man of will

“The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again, less sure about everything. It freed me to enter one of the most creative periods of my life. I'm pretty sure none of this would have happened if I hadn't been fired from Apple. It was awful-tasting medicine, but I guess the patient needed it.”

Like you already know, Steve died 3 weeks ago of a pancreas tumor, on october 5 at the age of 56 years old. A lot of inks have been written about him and in some way, I would like to pay him tribute too.

Born in 1955, he was a man with great human capacities not only for the business but also for the way how it shows himself to the whole world. I am not going to widen a lot about his past because, for that, you can read it on wikipedia but to resume very quickly for those you don’t know him, I will say, he was the co-founder of Apple in 1976, fired by his own company in 1985, back in 1996 to save Apple and resigned as CEO in 2011 due to his health problem.

Meanwhile he was out of Apple, he created NeXT Computer in 1985 and he bought The Graphics Group, actually know Pixar, in 1986. Let’s say that he wasn’t short of work after leaving the company. One of the products developed by NeXT Computer, called NeXTSTEP, is actually the operating system of Apple called Mac OS X. You may wonder how NeXTSTEP became part of your Apple laptop (if you have one), well because he was able to convince Apple to buy NeXT Computer in 1996. And if you have an iphone, an ipod, an ipad and/or the 2nd generation Apple TV, take note that the operating system iOS is based on Mac OS X.

I am thinking right now if it was the destiny or his charismatic which led him where many people adore him so much. Of course, in this world, you can make friends without enemies, for the last one, I don’t think he had a lot, I mean in his personal life and in the business world, there are a lot like Microsoft, Samsung, IBM, Google...

Personally, I am not a fan of Apple products but I don’t deny them. For instance, let´s talk about design, I found the iphone 4 much more beautiful than the iphone 3. I wouldn’t buy the first version but if it was not because of the system and its limitation to personalize for example, I will buy the last one.

Steve was a man with good ideas and who knew how to start and convert them from nothing to star products. Not only he owns an excellent capacity to do business but also his way to show himself and to hypnotize a room full of people during a representation. The most important is that he knew how to create “expectation” in each of his speeches, something not really easy to do !!!

What I like most about him, it is his perseverance because he never gave up. During those past years, he was out of the scene many times due to his health, and instead to take some rest after each chirurgical operation, he came back. For the pleasure of his fans but at the expense of his life, we saw him frailer each time until one day, on august 24, he announced his resignation as Apple's CEO by writing those words "unfortunately, that day has come" and he named Tim Cook as his successor.

To tell him goodbye and to you, I will end with this phrase he said in 2005 “to remember that you can die is the best way to avoid thinking that you have something to lose”.
