The elements of the feng shui

In the universe, each object and element have its own energy and following where we are going to place them, they will favor our life and our surroundings. The chi, defined like life force of an object, person or place, plays an important role in the feng shui and its flow is unique for each place so depending on us, we can influence it to increase this energy a little or a lot.

The chi is characterized by 2 main factors, the yin and the yang and the 5 elements which are water, wood, fire, earth and metal. The yin and the yang represents the opposite force and the 5 elements are the energy of the feng shui. I will describe those 5 elements that we can use to influence positively our life and to anticipate a devastating use.

Water from the north. It represents ease, freshness and abundance. Using within a good harmony, it will bring a refreshing energy of peace and purity. For example, a fountain can indicate opportunities and wealth and a leak can indicate poor health.

Wood from the east and southeast. It represents health, vitality and creativity and it will bring the energy of health, vitality and development. For example, we can decorate our place with wood to promote motivation, inspiration and passion without to be excessive.

Fire from the south. It represents passion and high energy. This element is the most powerful and it will bring a supporting energy and recognition but combined with the wood element, it will be destructive.

Earth from the northeast and southwest. It represents permanence, nourishment, and solidity. Using within a good balance, it will bring stability and protection in our relationship and it is recommended to use it in a place with a lot of movement.

Metal from the west and northwest. It represents clarity and preciseness. Using in an efficient place, it will bring sharpness and efficiency. Majority of the time, it is used to transmit or to conduct energy but be careful to not use too much since it may attract a lot of energy and by this way, be destructive.

Of course we can combine them to bring more energy in our place but in spite that some elements can work in harmony, others can destroy between them.

For example, decorating our home with only wood will bring us vitality but if we are going to combine with water, the energy will increase since wood needs water to grow. Fire combining with wood will create a devastative energy since fire consumes wood and it will be more effective to combine it with earth.

Each person has to find his own good energy because if an environment works for you, it doesn’t mean that it will work for the others. The simple reason is that each one owns an energy proper to him/her.

The ideal is to create a perfect synergy which corresponds to our chi and not necessary to improve it because the energy is not solid but fluid and in constant move. By some way, when we are able to form our perfect and ideal chi, the harmony and the balance will allow us to live a better life of peace, stability and growth with love, passion and serenity.
