The different techniques of massage

Since more than 3000 years, the massage has crossed all over world from East to West to bring its benefits to our body and our mind. There are a lot of kinds of massage, from the most suffering to the less one but I am sure that you will agree with me in one point, all massages will always provide us a well being. Following I will describe the most known massages.

Anmo. Born from the ancient chinese medicine more than 5000 years, this chinese massage is an energy manual technique which affects the body from the external to the internal, from the surface to the profoundness. The goal of anmo is to restore the harmony and the balance between the body and the mind in order to transmit our body well being and health.

Anma. Anma or Amma is a japanese word which means « massage » and it is based from the technique of the traditional chinese massage. It uses pressures, stretchings and percussions with fingers, arms, elbows, knees and feet on the 14 main meridians of the body. Amma doesn’t use any oil and you don’t need to be naked.

Sitting massage. This technique is a mix between the shiatsu and the amma on which you have to sit and to be completely dressed. Normally the sitting massage needs the use of a special chair but in case of emergency, it doesn’t matter your chair and you can have all your clothes with you.

Acupuncture. Dating to 4000 and 3000 BC, the acupuncture, also known like traditional chinese medicine, was born in China and it uses the technique of inserting and manipulating fine needles in different specific points on the body. Those points are located along meridians on which qi (vital energy) flows and by putting the needles on those points, it allows to relieve pains and it uses for therapeutic purposes.

Acupressure. More than 5000 years, chineses discovered that massaging some part of the body could relieve the pain but also it can affect positively the mechanism of the internal organs. The acupressure is a curative art using the fingers to stimulate some key points of the body. When a pressure is done on those points, it relieves muscular tensions, facilitates the bloodstream and allows via the chi (also known qi “vital energy”) to maintain the body in good health. The acupuncture and the acupressure use the same points but the acupuncture uses needles and the acupressure uses hands and feet by soft pressure but firms.

Aromatherapy. Centuries ago, egyptians, greeks and romans use the essential oils (extracted from herbs, flowers, woods, roots, resins) for the treatment of the body and the skin. It allows the relaxation, contribute the bloodstream and accelerate the recovery after an injury.

Reflexology. Based on an antic chinese therapy, the reflexology is the manipulation of the following different parts of the body: feet, hands and ears since those ones have a direct relation with the other parts. By doing a pressure on those zones, it stimulates the other organs of the body and by using the energy of the body, it also stimulates the immune defense system and keeps a good energetic balance in the body. This technique is used to reduce pains, contribute the relaxation, increase the bloodstream and it can be practiced to cure illness related to the stress and emotional disorders.

Shiatsu. This technique, developed in Japan, uses fingers, palms, elbows or kneels to create a pressure in different parts of the body in order to stimulate them. Like the acupuncture, the shiatsu is used to free the corporal energies in order to restore the energetic balance of the body and to contribute the immune defense systems and on this way, to create a well being feeling and to contribute the bloodstream.

Thai massage. Born in Thailand since 250 years, the thai massage or nuad bo rarn is based on the fact that the body has 72000 sen (energy lines) with only 10 main sen. It stimulates peripheral organs (external organs) to produce effects to the internal organs and to do it, the thai massage uses the feet and it has to be practiced on a firm plait on the floor thus allowing the practitioner to use efficiently his weight. A legend tells that the thai massage has been created by Shivago Komarpaj, the personal doctor of Buddha and the king Magadha.
