Barcelona is not a big city like Madrid or Paris but it is a beautiful city with its 633 km². Reputed to have good weather with a hot temperature in summer and mild in winter, I pass majority of my time chasing the qi in each corner of its streets. Sunny or rainy day, blue or clouded sky, no matter the weather, all depend of my desire to go out and to take white and black pictures or photos full of colors !!! In spite that I know pretty well this city, there is always a hidden place and street to be discovered. But that it is not the most important point, indeed when we know that each day is different, this same law is applicable for each object, each building and each moment of our life. |
Outside, there are so many places to go with my camera…. Montjuïc, Sagrada Familia, Parc Güell, Montserrat, Parc Pedralbes, Tibidabo, beach, mountain… At the end, I have to take a decision because the day has only 24h and of course, half of this time I have to rest and to sleep !!!
No matter my decision, the most important is to be on the streets and to play with my surroundings and the weather. I walk during all day, sometimes with a fix idea of places to go but most part of the time, I just walk from north to south, east to west, north to west, south to east, west to north, east to south… because my main objective is not the place but what I feel when I cross a street, when I see a sun wrapping a building, a flow of a tree movement, a building expressing its chi… and at this exact moment, I take the shot.
The shot represents the vital force of this element which can be a streetlight in harmony with a tree, a block of 2 buildings one modern one old… Of course it happens that I take just a picture because the view is impressive, the architecture of the building is amazing… but even this simple photo represents my point of vision of the element.
Sometimes by pointing my lens to my objective, I can’t get anything special from the fountain at the Plaza España, Casa Milà of Antoni Gaudi, the Golden Fish of Frank Owen Gehry at the Vila Olimpica… on this situation, I just give up after trying some positions and hope that another day, this element will transmit me its qi.
The sun Yang starts to go down and soon its sister Ying will come out and maybe tonight it will be full moon !!!
Time to make a break, I’m wondering where my feet bring me today… Rambla de Catalunya… great one of my favorite streets where there are a lot of bars to take a drink and a snack. Also it is full of shops but I have nothing to buy. Luckily I find one table free outside at Cerveseria Ciudad Condal – normally it is always full and since they have good tapas, I can eat something to be served with my drink just the time to rest before to go home for dinner.
Night time, some buildings are lighted like the Agbar Tower of Jean Nouvel, Casa Batlló of Antoni Gaudi, modern streetlight of Pere Falqués i Urpi… or to watch the Magic Fountain show, a spectacle full of water and colors but unfortunately only friday and saturday.
Walking at night it is also or more exciting than during day because the city changes completely !!! Tonight I decided to go first to Agbar, an amazing tower with its 4000 light devices and during special season like Christmas and New Year, there is a light show and after just walk and experiment my light effects.
After walking more than 2h, I got some good pictures by staying at Poble Nou neighborhood. This district is well known to host a lot of nightclub and at the Rambla de Poble Nou street, I took an orchata – a spanish drink based on tiger nuts and if I go down this street, I will arrive to the beach but time to go home to end the day.
After living since 2000 at this city, I have Barcelona under my lens but as it is on constant change, there are always something new to know and like I said, in spite that we spend all our life in a city, we will never know all its facets, so I have still old streets to discover.
