Festival of Dreta Eixample, back to the modernism time
This local festival, called “festa major de la Dreta de l'Eixample”, is famous amongst its citizens and not so much for tourists, particularly to the people living in the neighborhood of the Dreta Eixample in the Eixample district. The neighborhood is very big so this event takes place in different streets but the main area is situated around the girona street crossing the arago street where there are a lot of stands and activities that are organized during 3 days and normally, the modernism fair is also part of the party. area so they contracted the most famous architects in order to have the best residence of the neighborhood and most of the constructions are a modernist style. So what you can find and do concretely in this traditional festival of Barcelona ?? I will tell you first about the stands.
You can find association ones, food ones, jewel ones, wine ones… most of them are artisan products so a good way to buy something which has been produced in Catalonia and to know if you will like or not, specially the food, you can try them before to take out your wallet. Some smart people go there to lunch totally for free !!!

A lot of activities and events are organized, some for children, for the family and/or for adults so everyone is welcomed to participate because majority of them are free. There are walking tours, exhibitions, contests, concerts, spinning, conferences, games, dances… and if you don’t mind to pay some few euros, you can even share a dinner with local people. On the other hand, if you prefer to eat only with your friends, you can also but it will be a little more expensive.

Since the district is famous for its many modernism buildings like the Batllo house, the Pedrera, Sagrada Familia… it is one of the reasons that the modernism fair is organized at the same time so this cultural festival offers a nice little exhibition of old cars dating between 1910 and 1920. Some people are dressed like men and women of this period so you will be completely immersed and one of the funny activities is to do biking with modernist bicycles that people can use it for free after a preregistration.

If you don’t want to miss this popular festival, you will have to be at Barcelona the first weekend of june, starting from friday to sunday and if you want to know more, you can check the official website of the district but unfortunately, there is no english version.
