Amstel concert 2009: Amaia Montero

The concert was great and in spite that there was 45 minutes of delay, it didn’t prevent the singer Amaia Montero to start very strong with the public.

At 22h, the place was already crowded and although we came on time, it seemed that the stage was not.

Everybody was waiting impatiently, seeing that some technicians were on stage doing and checking something wrong, we started to whistle and to claim her after 30 minutes.

15 minutes later, she came out with her band and we were so eagerly to watch her that everybody (well almost but a lot) sang with her the first song.

Amaia Montero Saldias, born in august 26 1976, is a famous spanish pop singer who started her professional career with the band called “La Oreja de Van Gogh” in 1996 as composer and main singer. In fact the band was called “Los Sin Nombres” and they changed the name when she integrated it in this period.

After winning a competition of pop rock music at the town San Sebastian in 1997, the band signed a contract with Sony Music for their first album called “dile al sol” in 1998 and since then, they became more and more famous across the world.

In 2001, they won the best spanish act award during the MTV Europe Music Awards and in 2003, with their 3rd album “Lo que te conté mientras te hacías la dormida” the grammy award of the best pop latino album.

November 19 2007, she announced to all fans that she would quit the band after 4 albums with them (I don’t include albums of their best hits like “LOVG, grandes éxitos”) and from this moment, she started a soloist career and one year after, her first album “Amaia Montero” came out and in the first week, sold it out more than 40.000 copies which allowed her to be number 1 in Spain.

The most emotive moment of the concert was when she did a speech explaining the reason why she wrote the song “407” and why majority of her lyrics include the word “mar” (sea). This song is dedicated to her father who died of a cancer and the fact that he liked so much the sea.

During all night, not only she sang songs from her album but also some of her former band, particularly the ones she wrote the lyrics. At a moment, she also did a compilation singing short songs of La Oreja de Van Gogh.

Until now, her career has allowed her to work with other artists like Eros Ramazzotti (está pasando noviembre), Miguel Bosé (Sevilla), Mikel Erentxun (lau teilatu), Luis Miguel (no se tú), Alejandro Fernández (me dediqué a perderte)...

During more than 1h of concert, we and everyone who were there had not stopped to sing, to dance, to jump, to rise and to move hands to almost everything she sang. Even in one or two songs, we ended for her.

Around 00h50, the concert was over but we claimed more, screaming very loud “otra, otra, otra” (another, another, another) and few minutes later, she came out again for our happiness during more or less 25 minutes to end it definitively.

Next concert, next week, monday 27, same place at 23h for Amaral, one of the most famous pop spanish singer in this 21th century.
