Aveiro with its stripe houses of Costa Nova in Portugal
After 4 days in Oporto with its vineyards of the Douro river, it was time to continue our Portugal adventure. We took our train of 16h52 to go to Aveiro (the ticket costs 8 euros each). In about 40 minutes, we arrived to our destination then we walked about 15 minutes to reach our hotel Jose Estevao (rua jose estevao 23, 80 euros per night with breakfast). The room is nice and simple with air conditioning, a bathroom (some rooms don't have one) and a small terrace (clean but not prepared to enjoy it, no table and no chairs).
The good point of the place is that it is located in the heart of the town surrounded by many things. To end the day, we visited the downtown, we took some
information about the boat tour that runs along the sea canal of the town (10 euros for 45 minutes) and we went to the Marinha da Troncalhada ecomuseum. The museum is an open-air one showing how to produce the salt and near to it, the maritime port. We could watch the sunset from here but the landscape is not nice.
The next day, on Sunday, we went to Costa Nova by bus (line L5951 - 3,75 euros roundtrip). The station is just at 3 minutes walk from the hotel so we took it at 9h55 and we left at 12h25 (the last one is at 19h40). The town is known for the stripe painting of its houses so except that, the other things to do are the beach, a boat tour and/or a mini golf. Back to Aveiro, and to kill the time, we did shopping and we didn't do the sea canal boat tour because visiting the area, we saw all things that the tour should show us. For us, it doesn't bring any value and what the boat can do, we did it by walking because everything are very close.
For lunch, I have no recommendation since the places we went, the food is normal; the only point I can add, restaurants behind the mall are a little cheaper. In the other hand, if you like sweet things, go to Pastry Ramos (avenida doutor lourenço peixinho 86-88), they have very good traditional cakes.
The next day, we took the train to the Natural Park of Serra da Estrela.
