Teas of the tea plant

Like you know it exists a lot of kinds of tea and of course, not all of them are the same, not only in the taste but also in the health benefices.

Teas from the tea plant, called “camellia sinensis”, are considered as real teas which include green, black and oolong tea varieties. All of them own health benefices for us, for example:

  • it was demonstrated by scientists that they own the skin protection function. Indeed, in some studies, they discovered that applying green tea on sunburned skin, the development of cancerous skin tumors was decreased.

  • the polyphenols, which are antioxidants, can help to reduce the heart disease by preventing cholesterol from oxidizing and damaging blood vessels. And the cancer, particularly catechins (polyphenol family), by suppressing oxidants before cell injuries occur. In some studies, scientists found out that drinking green or black tea reduced the size of the tumor for instance.
  • scientists found out that green and black teas influence on the alzheimer disease by preventing the activity of two enzymes in the brain which gives them new direction for their research.
  • they won’t prevent us to go to the dentist but they will reduce our visit because they increase the acid resistance of tooth enamel, act as antibiotics and keep teeth strong and healthy because of its fluoride.

Those real teas have a lot of healthful elements as polyphenols, tocopherol, vitamin C and other antioxidants. In fact, scientists believe that particularly the polyphenols are responsible for those good things on us. Of course, depending of the kind of real teas you are going to drink, one is stronger than the other according to the leave fermentation, for example:

  • green teas aren’t at all fermented so they are fresher than its cousins, moreover they own the lighter and subtle taste no matter if they are japanese, chinese, gunpowder…
  • black teas are green teas which, during the fermentation process which lasts 6 hours, change the leaves in black altering by this way the polyphenol content as the darjeeling, earl grey, jasmine… and giving them a strong taste.
  • oolong teas are green teas lightly fermented and they are classified between the black and green tea in taste and color as da hong pao, tie guanyin, dongding...

If you want to try, choose your tea amongst the real tea family instead of the herbal tea one, no matter with or without caffeine and hot or cold, they own the same characteristics except that ice tea starts to lose its benefices after a few days.

You may wonder what are the differences between the “real tea” and “herbal tea”. Well to resume, real tea is all I said above and herbal tea is made from flowers, leaves, seeds, roots… without anything from the tea plant “camellia sinensis”.

So don’t hesitate to drink some cups during the day and make sure that you steep the tea for about 3 minutes because this good time will allow maximizing its benefices by releasing its compounds and don’t put sugar !!!
